This series documents the diverse and quickly disappearing corner stores on the west side of Buffalo, NY. Unassuming by day, these stores come alive at night, lit up like beacons, beckoning the weary traveler with the promise of hot subs and cold beer. They are integrated into the fabric of the neighborhood, both architecturally and culturally. The hand-painted signage in various languages speaks to economic realities and striving immigrant communities. On the city's worst days, like during the deadly blizzard of 2022, they are sometimes the only resource available to snowed-in neighbors.
