The industrial romance of these rusty pumpjacks transporting oil to the surface, is so inspiring to me, I could sit there for days, in the burning midday sun and watch them rotating while listening to their repeatedly squeaking noise. Yet, they are a very controverse subject – natural oil is today often claimed as something negative. While this is true on the one side, it destroys the land and has a bad impact on the climate, it is also a big part of today’s wealth in general and certainly important for the local and regional economy in this place.
